Osteoarthritis

Besides inflammatory arthropathies (arthritis) and rheumatoid conditions which affect the surrounding areas of the joints (muscles, tendons, ligaments), abrasions of the joints (arthritis) are among the most common age- and lifestyle-related musculoskeletal problems.

Deterioration of the articular cartilages is a natural process which is mainly caused by life-long stress.
For this reason, especially people in their fifties are affected by arthritis. In addition factors such as overweight, genetic endowments, sex, unbalanced posture and a consistent overuse of the joints due to sports or heavy physical labour are key in causing osteoarthritis.

The knee and hip joints articular cartilages are particularly susceptible to arthrotic changes. Similar to a badly oiled engine, the joints gradually loose their shock-absorbing abilities and the bones start to grind against each other as they no longer receive sufficient lubrication.
The joint abrasion causes local inflammatory reactions and pain which, however, vary from patient to patient depending on his / her condition and individual pain perception.
In any case, movement is impaired and in some cases becomes completely impossible.

Osteoarthritis impairs the functionality of joints to an ever-increasing degree; the process can even start at a young age. Therefore, it is all the more important to take initial symptoms such as pain on movement, swelling and tight muscles seriously, and to build up bones and cartilage by way of early and continuous supplementation with nutrients.
