What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural element of our body (skin, joints and eyes).

From a chemical point of view hyaluronic acid is a long chain consisting of repeating sugar molecules. Due to the chemical structure HA has a very high water binding capacity which is responsible for e.g. maintaining moisture, firmness and elasticity of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid and its influence on skin aging

As we age, hyaluronic acid levels are reduced and the condition of our skin deteriorates. Environmental factors such as excessive sun exposure, smoking, poor diet, stress and the natural aging process have an influence on the depletion in the body’s own level of hyaluronic acid.

Our skin becomes thinner, drier and loses its elasticity. Lines and wrinkles start to appear and the entire harmony of the face changes. Areas that are mainly affected are the cheeks, lips, brows, temples and jawline.
